Course Objective

The Integrative Myofascial Release (IMR) course is a five-hour series instructed by Dr. Jean Paul Amonte in which he teaches and demonstrates the components of IMR including assessment, client positioning, techniques, and rehabilitative exercises. He demonstrates a number of hand techniques including Swedish, Russian and Western. Dr. Amonte also covers a number of ways to get a muscle in contraction to relax including: ischemic compression, vibration, reciprocal inhibition, post isometric relaxation, pin and stretch, Amonte towel and stretching techniques. He includes rehabilitation exercises to strengthen the areas involved. Each course in this series can be taken alone but if taken together will give the viewer insight into Dr. Amonte's integrated approach to the treatment of patients and clients in his practice.

In this hour: Dr. Amonte introduces the components of his integrated myofascial approach. He describes how to assess a client's posture and how to place them through active, passive and resistive ranges of motion. He also explains how palpation and reproduction of pain will enable you to understand which tissues need attention. He goes on to demonstrate the techniques he uses to address problem areas including a variety of hand techniques, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, and the Amonte Towel technique for deep myofascial work. He also covers a number of stretching techniques exercises used for rehabilitation.

Learning Objectives

By watching this hour viewers will be introduced to the integrated approach to caring for clients. The viewer will have greater understanding and ability to assess a client for areas of myofascial abnormality. He or she will be able to consider and begin to employ a variety of massage and neuromuscular techniques to resolve muscle tightness and restore losses of motion range.
